Abstract
Anaemia remains a persistent public health burden in India, disproportionately affecting adolescent girls in tribal and rural populations. This cross-sectional study was conducted across three tribal-majority districts of Chhattisgarh — Bastar, Narayanpur, and Bijapur — to assess the prevalence and determinants of anaemia among adolescent girls aged 10 to 19 years. A total of 450 participants were enrolled through cluster sampling from government school and Anganwadi settings. Blood haemoglobin levels were measured using a calibrated digital haemoglobinometer, and a validated structured questionnaire gathered data on dietary habits, menstrual patterns, household socioeconomic characteristics, and awareness of the POSHAN Abhiyaan. The study found an overall anaemia prevalence of 67.6% by WHO haemoglobin cut-offs. Findings underscore the urgent need for targeted nutritional interventions, improved IFA distribution mechanisms, and community-level health education in Chhattisgarh's tribal districts.
