Implementation of Three New Criminal Laws in India: A Study of Police Preparedness in Uttar Pradesh

Arjun Singh

The enactment of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023, which replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act respectively, marks the most comprehensive overhaul of India's criminal justice system since independence. This paper examines the state of preparedness among the Uttar Pradesh Police—India's largest state police force—in implementing these transformative legislations. The study reveals significant gaps in awareness, infrastructure, and inter-agency coordination, recommending a phased capacity-building approach and enhanced digital infrastructure.

This survey-based study involving 380 students reveals significant intra-state disparities in internet access and digital literacy. Fewer than 30% of rural students met basic digital competency thresholds. The study identifies gaps between policy intent and ground reality, recommending improved device access and teacher training.

Impact of MSME Schemes on Women Entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu: Evidence from Madurai and Tirunelveli Districts

Meena Rajan

Women entrepreneurs in India's MSME sector remain significantly underrepresented. This paper examines the impact of various government schemes on women-led enterprises in Madurai and Tirunelveli districts. Findings indicate that while scheme participation has a positive impact on short-term business establishment, it has limited impact on long-term sustainability. Mentorship and market access emerge as the most critical unmet needs.
