Abstract

While urbanisation is often presumed to erode traditional caste-based social hierarchies, semi-urban spaces in North India frequently witness mutated forms of social exclusion. This empirical sociological study investigates the multi-dimensional nature of caste-based exclusion among 250 Scheduled Caste households in semi-urban belts of Patna and Gaya districts, Bihar. The study examines spatial segregation, discrimination in informal labor markets, access to municipal services, and political representation.
